Thought I'd knock a bento out of the way and free up some time for the elliptical machine tomorrow morning by preparing it tonight. Like the new box? I got it from a great seller on ebay and it's sorta shaped like an oval bowl but is HUGE compared to most Japanese lacquer-ware bento boxes. I liked the roundness and roominess of it because I thought it would make a great bento box for noodle dishes. You've got all that room to swish things about and add sauces and such.
This noodle dish is a prepackaged one that you can find in your local Asian fridge or frozen aisle. It's soba noodles with pork flavored broth. And the broth is yummy...you can smell the ginger and other seasonings wafting off of it as it cooks. Good plain, but fantastic when dressed with a few steamed veggies such as carrots, bok choy, and snow peas. I've topped the noodles with sliced scallions...not just for looks but because I love the flavor, and cooked ground pork will finish off the toppings. I've wedged in a pinkish mochi in the other corner, and the part you can't see is the broth which I've stored in a small microwaveable ziploc container. I really wish these boxes were microwaveable, but it's a small sacrifice for such beauty, neh?
